Most of the products that Camera Addict sells include a warranty from the manufacturer or their licensed importer. We also carry some products that we obtained indirectly from the manufacturer or its licensed importers. These are Import Models.
An “Import Model” is not illegal, not a demo product, not a factory second, nor cheaper or inferior to a USA model. Almost every “Import Model” is completely identical to the US warranted model. Both "Import Models" and USA products are manufactured in the same factories utilizing the same components, assembly, and specifications, by the same exact workers. There is absolutely no difference in the finished product between “Import Models” and USA models, other than where they are intended to be exported to. In most instances, “Import Models” are much cheaper because of the constant fluctuations in exchange rates.
What differences should the customer be concerned with?
In most instances, the difference between a “Import Model” and a USA model is the cost difference between the products and the warranty coverage. The actual products are completely identical. In most cases, the “Import Model” is relatively cheaper in price than a USA model. “Import Models” usually do not qualify for the manufacturer’s rebate programs if available.
What is covered under warranty for “Import Models”?
“Import Models” are covered by warranty by Camera Addict identical to the provisions and limitations of the manufacturer’s warranty. Your “Import Model” includes a warranty card covered by Camera Addict for any manufacturer defects in the product to one year labor and 90 days parts, much like most warranties from a manufacturer.
If you experience any manufacturing defect with your product that was sold with a USA warranty, it can be sent directly to the manufacturer’s authorized repair facilities for servicing. A “Import Model” would have to be returned to Camera Addict for the warranty service and will be sent by Camera Addict to a repair center.
Why do we sell "Import Models"?
“Import Models” often cost much less than the comparable USA imports. This is often due to the daily fluctuation in exchange rates between countries. Each country has a set price with their currency that a product is sold for. Depending on the exchange rates, importers bring in merchandise from other countries for cheaper than they cost in the US. Likewise, during the fluctuations of exchange rates, when it is not favorable for importing products to the US, importers in other countries bring in merchandise from the USA and sell these as import models in their own countries. There are also some items that are sold by Camera Addict that are not available in the USA through regular distribution channels and are therefore imported. Import models are also very often imported because they are released prior to being released in the USA.
